First Time User Registration for McGoogan Docs

To request an item through McGoogan Library's Interlibrary Loan and Photocopy Service, you must first identify yourself to the library's McGoogan Docs system. To do this you fill out a registration form using your Web browser.
Registration has three purposes:

  • Entering your personal information into the McGoogan system means you will not have to supply the information again when making future requests.
  • Having your e-mail and regular mail addresses on file with Interlibrary Loan enables us to notify you promptly and deliver materials accurately when your request arrives in the library.
  • By specifying a Username and Password of your choosing, you will have secure access to information about your requests. You will also be able to review the list of items you have requested in the past.

Authorized Customers of McGoogan Docs

The services of the Interlibrary Loan Department are available to the following groups:

  • UNMC faculty, staff, and students
  • Nebraska Medical Center staff and physicians
  • Bellevue Medical Center staff and physicians
  • Children's Hospital staff and physicians
  • Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital staff and physicians
  • Visiting students, interns, and faculty
  • UNMC alumni
  • Nebraska health professionals, lawyers, and residents
  • Western Iowa professionals and residents

Request Types

It is our policy that we will only process requests that are related to your work or UNMC education. Requests that are personal in nature can only be related to your current professional, educational or medical needs. If you are a student from another institution, please utilize the Interlibrary Loan services at that library. For leisure or popular titles, please contact your local public library for Interlibrary Loan assistance.

Requests for articles that you have authored are only acceptable if the article is for your own personal files. Original publisher PDFs cannot be guaranteed. For a publisher quality copy or for copies that are intended to be distributed, please contact the publisher directly for reprints and permissions.

About your Username and Password

During registration, you will be asked to choose a Username and Password. You will use this Username and Password when logging on to the McGoogan Docs system in the future.

Username
Choose anything you like, such as your name, abbreviations, or an alphanumeric code. It is recommended that you use your Lotus Notes username (e.g. jdoe) if you have one.
Password
Choose anything you like. We recommend that you follow good security practice and choose a password that is different from those you use to access other systems.
McGoogan Docs will encrypt your password, so it will remain secure. Only you will know your password.

Service Fees

To help cover costs that the Interlibrary Loan department incurs through other libraries, technology maintenance, and copyright, a nominal charge is applied to all requests. However, if an item is received from one of the other NU libraries, the charges will not be applied.

  • Additional $5 for Rush requests (STUDENTS MUST PRE-PAY FOR RUSH/URGENT)
  • Copyright surcharge
    • Affiliates - additional $31 (for instances when the individual requests a 6th articles from a single journal title dated within the last 5 years OR if the individual requests more than one article from a single issue).
    • STUDENTS MUST PRE-PAY
    • Non-affiliates - current rate as determined by the Copyright Clearance Center
  • If the library is unable to obtain a loan of a dissertation, a hard copy can be purchased from ProQuest on your behalf at the cost of $29. Students who use this option will have their request counted as 2 items towards their 50 free requests.
Failure to pay invoices may result in your McGoogan Docs account being blocked until payment is made.

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research". If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
